Whose beard is that?

A tribute to my wonderful Grandad who’s life we celebrated today.

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
Its owner is quite happy though.
Jokes and laughter, tricks and fun
Sometimes for the bus he’d run!

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
He makes all children’s faces glow
With jibes to Grandma, she would jest
Oh ignore him kids, he’s such a pest!

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
Oh how sometimes, he’d let it grow!
He’d comb his beard, his hair, his tash
He’d always lend his friends some cash

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
With a hanky, his nose he’d blow
A big achoo, what a din
He’d make us jump out of our skin!

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
To Southend he loved to go
Do da’s donuts he would eat
It really was his favourite treat!

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
Oh how he used to walk so slow!
He’d stop and talk to everyone
Not noticing the setting sun

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
He’d sometimes just go with the flow
A whole trifle, he’d polish off!
But take his time, he wouldn’t scoff!

Whose beard is that why don’t you know?
A slice of beef, he would forgo
Pescetarianism, he’d give a nod
He’d love to eat some chips, and cod

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
It really was as white as snow
He’s our personal, old st nick
He doesn’t know the meaning of quick

Whose beard is that? Why don’t you know?
When we would plan somewhere to go
Never simple, no reason or rhyme
He’d say “oh what a pantomime!”

Whose beard is that, why don’t you know?
He’d always stop to say hello!
A monocle, he would long for
He really never was a bore!

Whose beard is that? Oh, you must know!
It’s Grandad Alberts! Don’t you know?!
His favourite pudding, apple pie
His sense of humour, sometimes dry.

All friends, no foes. Heart of gold
He’d never act like he was old

You may be sad that he’s not here
I’m sure that we’ve all shed some tears
But do not fear, he’s in the squad
So we all know, he’s home, with God.
